Click on Stories of the City to experience the Monumentaries.

Monumentaries are audio-visual stories of memory in public spaces, created by a diverse group of people in the city of Albuquerque.

A Monumentary brings a memory to life, and defines it as a temporary and immaterial monument.

These stories are supplements to a new understanding of shared spaces in our city. We invite you to add stories of your own memories to our project as part of a process of imbuing a new map of Albuquerque with intimate, momentary monuments.

This project is an initiative of the arts non-profit Friends of the Orphan Signs, and initially includes memories from students from CNM, UNM, and invited professional artists. It was created for the exhibition Countermapping, at 516 ARTS in Albuquerque, opening fall 2021.
